Puerto Rico was a former Spanish colony that was ceded to the USA when Spain lost the Spanish-American War. Located in the Northeastern Caribbean, its citizens have been granted American citizenship in 1917. Currently, popular mandate has rejected full independence.

With one of the better economies in the region, Puerto Rico has industrial, agricultural and tourism sectors as the main drivers of its economy. Considered to be a high-income country by the World Bank, the country enjoys a robust market and continues to expand its sectors.
