Depois de meses de rigoroso alinhamento de processo e extensa auditoria, a Altaaqa Global Caterpillar Rental Power, fornecedor líder global de soluções de energia temporária multi-megawatt, obteve a certificação ISO 50001:2011 da TÜV NORD, o órgão certificador reconhecido pela ISO sediado em Hanover, na Alemanha.

A ISO 50001:2011 especifica os requisitos para estabelecer, implementar, manter e aprimorar um sistema de gerenciamento de energia cujo objetivo é permitir que uma organização siga uma abordagem sistemática para obter aprimoramento contínuo do desempenho energético em suas operações e projetos.

“A ISO 50001:2011 é aplicável a qualquer organização que deseja garantir que seus produtos e serviços estejam em conformidade com sua política energética declarada”, afirmou Shibu Davies, Diretor Geral de Certificação, HSD & Lab, da TÜV NORD. “Essa certificação concedida à Altaaqa Global, a única empresa de fornecimento de energia do mundo a ter realizado esse feito até agora, é um testemunho da dedicação inabalável da empresa em entregar projetos de geração energética multi-megawatt que utilizam energia de modo eficiente, preservem os recursos naturais e ajudem a combater as mudanças climáticas.”

Après de nombreux mois d’audits détaillés et d’alignements des processus rigoureux, Altaaqa Global Caterpillar Rental Power, le principal prestataire international de solutions d’énergie temporaire de plusieurs méga-watts, a obtenu la certification ISO 50001:2011 auprès de TÜV NORD, l’organisme de certification ISO siégeant à Hanovre en Allemagne.

La norme ISO 50001:2011 détermine les exigences relatives à l’établissement, l’exécution, l’entretien et l’amélioration d’un système de gestion de l’énergie dont le but est de permettre à une organisation de suivre une approche systématique visant à améliorer en continu la performance énergétique au sein de ses projets et opérations.

Altaaqa Global Achieves ISO Recognition for Energy Performance

The company is the first and thus far the only temporary power provider to have its projects certified in accordance with ISO 50001:2011 standards

After months of rigorous process alignment and extensive audit, Altaaqa Global Caterpillar Rental Power, a leading global provider of multi-megawatt temporary power solutions, has achieved ISO 50001:2011 certification from TÜV NORD, the ISO-accredited certification body headquartered in Hanover, Germany.

ISO 50001:2011 specifies requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and improving an energy management system, whose purpose is to enable an organization to follow a systematic approach in achieving continual improvement in energy performance within its operations and projects.

Altaaqa Global and Caterpillar Team Up to Power Cameroon and Empower Locals through Customer Development Program

The program through Caterpillar University helps solve Cameroon’s energy challenge while facilitating the transfer of engineering and advanced technical knowledge to local professionals at state-of-the-art 50 MW project

DUBAI – Altaaqa Global Caterpillar Rental Power, a leading global temporary power solutions provider, and Caterpillar Inc. have developed a solution to one of Cameroon’s biggest challenges: reliable energy access. This solution is not only about transferring power but also knowledge and prosperity across the African country.

In 2015, Altaaqa Global installed a 50 MW natural gas power plant in Cameroon’s most populous city, Douala, as an immediate solution to the city’s chronic electricity shortage. The power plant added reliable power to Cameroon’s grid, and provided its people and industries with a new, reliable source of electricity.

Just as important as the power was ensuring a local team of highly trained professionals was able to oversee the operation of the power plant. Altaaqa deployed Caterpillar University, Caterpillar’s proprietary training platform, to launch a Customer Development Program. The pilot program, which will continuously run for one year, is offered to a team of select local engineers and technical professionals from Altaaqa Global’s client Eneo, Cameroon’s integrated utility provider.

The Customer Development Program

One of the key pillars of Altaaqa Global’s sustainable business model is extending employment and learning opportunities to local communities where it has projects, with the aim of enhancing their skills and transferring world-class industry knowledge to the local workforce.

To facilitate the transfer of knowledge and skills to Eneo’s team of local engineers and professionals, Altaaqa Global launched a tailored customer training program, in cooperation with Caterpillar University.

The program features three methods of instruction: classroom teaching, online instruction and on-the-job mentoring with Altaaqa Global’s Cat-certified in-house technicians. To encourage a better understanding of technical concepts taken up in the classroom, Altaaqa Global enrolled the Eneo engineers in Caterpillar University, which features expert-curated modules on service, safety and equipment operation.

For the purposes of the program, Altaaqa Global’s training engineers designed a learning plan that included carefully selected modules available on Caterpillar University. Considering their relevance to the participants’ tasks at site and to the engines installed for the project, the trainers hand-picked specialized courses on Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) and Engineering Service.

At the end of the year-long program, subject to the completion of all necessary on-line modules and a satisfactory performance in the final evaluation, the participants will be awarded a Level 1 Preventive Maintenance (PM) Technician certificate, and will thus be eligible to progress to second-level training. Altaaqa Global will conduct the program on a continuous basis, such that the training will be offered to every new team of engineers and technical professionals from Eneo.

Commenting on the motivation behind the training program, Peter den Boogert, CEO of Altaaqa Global, said: “In all of our projects, we provide more than electricity; we offer training and employment opportunities to locals. In fact, 95% of our site employees in our projects around the world is composed of locals.”

Altaaqa Global inaugura in Camerun le sue centrali elettriche temporanee a gas

Completate in solo 21 giorni, per un totale di 50 MW, le centrali elettriche temporanee costituiscono nuove fonti affidabili e sostenibili d’elettricità in Camerun

Il 28 Aprile, Altaaqa Global ha inaugurato le sue centrali elettriche temporanee a gas, per un totale di 50 MW, al sito Logbaba a Douala, Camerun. Alla ceremonia d’inaugurazione hanno partecipato il Dott. Atangana Kouna Basile, ministro delle risorse idriche e dell’energia di Camerun; membri del governo camerunese, dirigenti da Eneo Cameroon S.A. – l’impresa integrata dei servizi di Camerun – e da Gaz du Cameroun (GDC), una società controllata da Victoria Oil & Gas (VOG). Le centrali temporanee sono state installate e commissionate in solo 21 giorni da quando sono arrivate le apparecchiature elettriche ai siti proposti.

Un modello operativo collaborativo

Il positivo completamento delle centrali elettriche è la testimonianza della fattibilità di un modello operativo collaborativo in cui il governo, l’impresa dei servizi, il fornitore del combustibile e il fornitore delle apparecchiature lavorano insieme per raggiungere una singola meta. Il governo camerunese ed Eneo sono stati i clienti, Altaaqa Global hanno preso la risponsabilità di fornire le apparecchiature elettriche e di importare ed installare i generatori ai siti a Logbaba e Ndokoti (Bassa), mentre GDC hanno provisto il gas alle centrali in tutti e due siti.

Nel commentare l’operazione, Peter den Boogert, l’amministratore delegato di Altaaqa Global, ha detto: “Siamo veramente fieri di aver partecipato a questo progetto, e di aver lavorato insieme al governo camerunese, Eneo e GDC. È stato un onore immenso l’aver contribuito alla strategia nazionale per l’energia di Camerun, ed l’aver avuto l’opportunità di promuovere il bene della nazione camerunese. Il successo di questo progetto dimostra che quando tutti i partecipanti ad un’attività pongono una grande importanza al servizio e all’integrità, anziché ai propri interessi, tutto è possibile. Abbiamo visto, quindi, che il risultato complessivo è maggiore delle somma delle singole parti.”

Il modello operativo collaborativo hanno dimostrato, inoltre, i suoi benefici economici ai fornitori dei servizi, al punto di essere chiamato un vero “game-changer” (una svolta rivoluzionaria) da Kevin Foo, l’amministratore delegato di VOG: “Tramite questo accordo con Eneo, abbiamo garantito un utente principale di gas per la nostra operazione camerunese nel prossimo futuro. Stiamo progressivamente svolgendo un ruolo attivo nel settore dell’energia di Camerun.”

Una tecnologia rispettosa dell’ambiente

Inoltre al modello operativo collaborativo, il progetto vanta anche del rispetto dell’ambiente, dovuto al fatto che le centrali elettriche temporanee funzionano a gas.

Altaaqa Global ha installato generatori elettrici a gas moderni a tutti e due siti per garantire non solo l’affidabilità ma anche l’eco-compatibilità del progetto. Riconoscendo i requisiti internazionali relativi alle emissioni di gas, Altaaqa Global ha sviluppato i suoi generatori in modo che le loro emissioni non superino 250 mg/Nm3, anche senza sistema di post-trattamento.

Nel commentare la sostenibilità del progetto, Majid Zahid, il direttore degli account strategici di Altaaqa Global, ha detto: “Le nostre centrali elettriche a gas soddisfano i requisiti internazionali relative alle emissioni e, dunque, non danneggiano l’ambiente. Le centrali sono particolarmente sviluppate con attenzione non solo alla loro affidabilità ed alle loro prestazioni, ma anche alle loro eco-compatibiltà, essendo più rispettose dell’ambiente a paragone con altre centrali ad altri carburanti. Grazie al fatto che i generatori funzionano a gas, non richiedono post-trattamento, e quindi sono più economiche dovuto ai prezzi più bassi dei carburanti. Zahid ha aggiunto che le centrali a gas erano più flessibili in termini di consumo dei carburanti, e che ne mantenevano l’efficienza anche con diverse varietà di combustibili.

Il percorso di sviluppo economico di Camerun

L’elettricità è essenziale per garantire lo sviluppo delle economie ed industrie – particolarmente nei paesi emergenti, come Camerun. Con il successo del progetto, tutto il paese avrà una fonte affidabile e sostenibile d’elettricità che fornirà l’energia a Camerun mentre migliora la sua infrastruttura e costruisce facilitazioni aggiuntive per appoggiare le sue industrie.

In tale contesto, Joel Nana Kontchou, l’amministratore delgato di Eneo, ha detto: “Il progetto resolve la carenza d’energia in Camerun dovuta all’aumento della domanda ed alla mancanza di una reserva nell’infrastruttura d’elettricità. Siamo contenti di aver lavorato con GDC e Altaaqa Global – due imprese che condividono il nostro profondo impegno verso la risoluzione delle sfide energetiche ed infrastrutturali di Camerun.

L’economia di Camerun ha sopportato il calo dei prezzi dei suoi prodotti principali destinati all’esportazione – petrolio, cacao, caffè e cotone – e ha mantenuto la stabilità economica negli ultimi anni. Il 2013, il PIL di Camerun è salito del circa 4,9%, e gli esperti prevedono che purché i settori della costruzione, del petrolifero e del gas, del trasporto, delle telecomunicazioni e dell’alberghiero registrino ottime performance, si mantiene intorno a quel livello fino al 2015. Il governo di Camerun sta lavorando a promuovere crescita economica ed occupazione nel paese tramite lo sviluppo continuo dell’energia, del trasporto e dell’infrastruttura di telecommunicazione. È, inoltre, disposto a modernizzare gli impianti ed i processi di produzione del paese (particolarmente nei settori dell’agricoltura e manifatturiero).

حصدت شركة الطاقة جلوبال، التي تتخذ من دبي مقرًا لها، والتي تعد موفرًا عالميًا لحلول الطاقة المؤقتة، والشركة الشقيقة لها، Altaaqa Alternative Solutions (الطاقة)، والتي تعد الموفر الرئيسي لحلول الطاقة الكهربية والمياه والتحكم في درجات الحرارة في المملكة العربية السعودية، مجموعة من الجوائز الكبرى في احتفال جوائز MEP لعام 2014، والذي عقد في مدينة دبي في 26 من نوفمبر، عام 2014، في فندق سوفيتيل دبي بمنتجع ونادي النخيل الصحي. وقد تم تقدير دور شركة الطاقة جلوبال نظير مبادراتها المتميزة في مجال الصحة والسلامة والأمن فيما يتعلق باستغلال موظفيها ومعداتها في البيئات المعادية، بينما فازت الشركة الشقيقة لها، Altaaqa Alternative Solutions، والتي تتخذ من جدة مقرًا لها، بجائزة أفضل مقاول متخصص في العام، بعد النجاح في إتمام مشروع محطة الطاقة المؤقتة بقدرة 95 ميجا وات في الخرج بالمملكة العربية السعودية، والذي تم تنفيذه خلال 22 يومًا فقط.

وقد تمكنت شركة الطاقة جلوبال من تحقيق هذا الإنجاز من بين مجموعة كبيرة من الشركات الضخمة التي كانت مرشحة للفوز به، بما في ذلك ETA Engineering وArabian MEP Contracting وMercury MENA وAECOM وALEMCO. وقد تفوقت شركة الطاقة على مجموعة متميزة من الشركات التي وُضعت في القائمة النهائية للمرشحين للفوز بالجوائز، بما في ذلك Arabian MEP Contracting وSEMCO.

وهناك إنجاز آخر، ألا وهو جائزة أفضل مقاول متخصص في العام، وهي تمنح لشركة لعبت دورًا محوريًا في التنمية المستمرة لقطاع MEP، وتعزز الاستدامة وفاعلية التكلفة، مما يساعد قطاع MEP على وضع المعايير الذاتية له في مختلف أرجاء العالم. واحتفاءً بهذا الإنجاز التاريخي الذي تم تنفيذه في 22 يومًا بإنشاء محطة طاقة بقدرة 95 ميجا وات في الخرج بالمملكة العربية السعودية، اقتنعت لجنة التحكيم بأن شركة الطاقة قد أظهرت أنه من خلال مستوى مرتفع من التنسيق والتخطيط، ومن خلال ما قال عنه القضاة “أعصاب من الصلب”، تتمكن الشركة من الوفاء بالمتطلبات التي تمثل تحديات ضخمة.

وقال عماد المخللاتي، المدير الإداري لشركة الطاقة في معرض خطابه بالمناسبة “سوف تزيد هذه الجائزة من شجاعة فريق العمل في الطاقة من أجل الاستمرار في توفير المزيد من الحلول الإبداعية وعالية الجودة لعملاء الشركة التي تتجاوز عن توقعاتهم”.

وقال ستيفن ميريك، معلقًا بالنيابة عن مجلس إدارة شركة الطاقة جلوبال وAltaaqa Alternative Solutions، أن هذه الجوائز التقديرية يمكن أن تمنح كلا الشركتين المزيد من الإلهام لتحسين العمليات ومتابعة تنفيذ المشروعات التي تطلق العنان لحدود الهندسة بمزيد من الشجاعة، مع تحسين أفضل الممارسات في مجالي الصحة والسلامة.

حظت الشركة بتكريم كبير بفوزها بجائزة التميز للطاقة ضمن جوائز معهد الطاقة لعام 2014، بلندن، بالمملكة المتحدة

حازت شركة الطاقة جلوبال، المزود العالمي لحلول الطاقة المؤقتة، على تكريم كبير بمنحها جائزة التميز للطاقة لإنشائها محطة كهرباء بقدرة 54 ميجاوات في 23 يومًا في عدن، باليمن، في حفل توزيع جوائز معهد الطاقة لعام 2014 الذي عُقد في 13 نوفمبر في فندق شيراتون بارك لين في لندن. ومن خلال بحثها، الذي يحمل العنوان “إعادة بناء أمة مزقتها الحرب”، رُشّحت شركة الطاقة جلوبال لهذا الشرف بين مجموعة من المرشحين المتميزين، والتي شملت الاتحاد الدولي لمنتجي النفط والغاز، ووزارة الدفاع البريطانية، وأوبن انرجي، وأجريجيت إندستريز.

وتهدف جائزة التميز للطاقة إلى منح تقدير خاص لصاحب الإنجاز المتميز في صناعة الطاقة، مع الاحتفال بالتفكير المتجدد، والحل الاستراتيجي والمبتكر للمشكلات. وللتأهل للحصول على الجائزة، كان ينبغي على الإنجاز الذي حققته شركة ما أو مشروع ما أن يكون له تأثير بعيد المدى في جميع مجالات الصناعة. كما قال المنظمون، تمتد الجائزة إلى كل فئة من الفئات الأخرى، وتمثل قمة الإنجاز في صناعة الطاقة.

وقد علّق بيتر دين بوجيرت، المدير العام لشركة طاقة جلوبال، من داخل الحدث، قائلا “نحن فخورون وبتواضع لتقديرنا من هيئة الطاقة الأكثر شهرة في المملكة المتحدة. وهذا التقدير هو شهادة على العمل الشاق الذي قام به الرجال والنساء العاملون في شركة الطاقة جلوبال في المشروع، متحدّين عدم الاستقرار الأمني وأقسى الظروف الجوية. علاوة على ذلك نتقدم بخالص امتناننا للمهندسين اليمنيين المحليين الذين عملوا جنبًا إلى جنب معنا في انجاز هذا المشروع التاريخي”.

كما أرجع ماجد زاهد، مدير الحسابات الإستراتيجية لشركة الطاقة جلوبال، هذا الانجاز لأهل عدن، باليمن، قائلا: “نحن نتشارك في هذا التميز مع شعب اليمن، بما في ذلك قيادة البلاد، الذين عهدوا إلينا بتوفير الكهرباء التي تشتد الحاجة إليها في خضم إعادة بناء دولتهم. وقد واجه هذا المشروع تحديات لا تعد ولا تحصى، ولكننا تحلينا بالقوة والمثابرة للمواصلة مستمدين ذلك من إيمانهم وأملهم. وعلاوة على ذلك، فإن هذا المشروع لم يكن ليكون له مغزى دون الاستجابة الإيجابية التي أظهرها شعب اليمن نحو حملات الحفاظ على الطاقة وحملات الاستخدام الفعال التي قمنا بعملها”.

وقال ستيفن ميريك، ممثل مجلس إدارة شركة الطاقة جلوبال، إن هذا التقدير من شأنه أن يشجع الشركة بصورة أكبر لتحسين عملياتها والقيام بالمشاريع التي تسهم في دفع عجلة الإبداع الهندسي، حيث قال: “هذا التكريم الكبير من معهد الطاقة يجسد الخطوات التقدمية التي اتخذتها شركة الطاقة جلوبال نحو تحقيق الأهداف الطموحة للغاية التي وضعناها لأنفسنا. وسوف نواصل تحدي أنفسنا في كل مشروع نقوم به ونبني على الإبداع الذي قدمناه في الماضي.”

مشروع 54 ميجاوات الذي قامت به شركة الطاقة جلوبال في عدن، باليمن تم إنشاءه والانتهاء منه أثناء تعافى البلاد من تأثيرات الربيع العربي. كانت محطة الطاقة المؤقتة، التي شُيّدت في 23 يومًا فقط، قادرة على توفير إمدادات الكهرباء لأكثر من نصف مليون شخص. وقد دفع نجاح المشروع الحكومة اليمنية إلى إضافة 50 ميجاوات إلى المنشأة القائمة، ليصل إجمالي الطاقة الإنتاجية لمحطة توليد الكهرباء إلى 104 ميجاوات.

Sharing the Power Pie

Many residents and businesses that packed their bags and left the Middle East at the height of the crisis are now zipping their luggage for a completely polar reason. As the Middle East rises from the ashes of the recent financial downturn, a great number of companies and ex-residents that fled the region are now clawing to take the next flight in. The Middle Eastern governments, particularly in the GCC countries, have remained tenacious in the face of the downturn and strategically, albeit riskily, continued to disburse notable amounts to fund infrastructure, commercial and residential projects, which were then in danger of being either stalled or cancelled. Now, in light of the nascent regional upturn, these projects (in addition to new ones) are gaining traction, and the companies that used to shy away from them from fear of an unprecedented collapse are now optimistically tendering to win the rights to capitalize on the burgeoning GCC construction industry.

However, the companies and the residents in the GCC will not only have the economic and financial rewards to share among themselves – each of them will also have to take a piece of the region’s energy supply, which may not be as rapidly expanding as the economy or as actively evolving as the industrial processes. A perennial issue in the developing economies, like the Middle East, is the observed discrepancy between the rate of economic and industrial expansion and of investments in power-related infrastructure. Economic activities in emerging markets are increasing at a remarkably fast pace while projects related to power generation or distribution are, most of the time, suffering notable delays.

That the demand for energy outstrips the supply may bring about serious repercussion in the foreseeable future. Most of the countries in the Middle East depend on natural gas – a finite resource – for electricity, and though the present demand may not result in its complete depletion, an occasional spike in energy requirements, like during the summer months or seasons of intense oil & gas or commercial production, may result in supply hiccups which are not to be underestimated.

When the demand overwhelms the supply channels, power outages may occur. Saudi Arabia has reportedly experienced several occurrences of massive power interruptions in recent years, said to be due to the demanding energy requirement during the hottest and peak production months. The emirate of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates has also felt the economic effects of a sustained power interruption, with local industrial companies reporting cumulative losses between AED 70 million and AED 100 million.

To prevent the recurrence of power interruptions, governments in the Middle East are exploring the possibility of tapping other sources of energy to boost their respective countries’ electricity supply. Some countries in the GCC are keenly looking at harnessing the power of the sun to complement their traditional energy sources. Saudi Arabia has announced that it is looking to install 41 GW of solar power by 2032, predicted to yield enough energy to support 20% of its total electricity production. Kuwait is already mapping out plans to at least produce 5% of its electricity from solar means, while the UAE, Jordan and Qatar have also unveiled solar generation targets on the gigawatt scale.

Over the next few years, these objectives will translate into large-scale power-related infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing the overall electricity generation capabilities of the aforementioned Middle Eastern countries. There is however, an unaccounted arc that calls for a more heightened attention: What happens, then, between now and the time when these projects are finally fully operational? Will power interruptions continue to persist? Will load shedding be a regular solution so that power plants avert the possibility of a total shutdown? Will companies, factories, oil & gas facilities and mining sites in the Middle East continue to suffer financial loses when the power supply cannot support their operational demands?

A power boost
Interim power generation plants could represent an immediate, viable, sustainable and cost-efficient solution to energy-related problems while the permanent electricity infrastructure is still being planned, evaluated or constructed. Rental power technologies, as the ones provided by Altaaqa Global CAT Rental Power, can provide cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional sources of power when situations call for a boost in power supply, like during the summer months or during the completion of large-scale activities. Gas, diesel or dual-fuel (70% gas and 30% diesel) generators are specifically developed to reduce fuel costs and encourage cost-savings on the part of the end-users.

Interim power station technologies also provide the most flexible power solution to support base load, intermediate, peaking or standby power generation. These solutions are adaptable enough to meet the exact requirements of different industries in the Middle East, such as utility, industrial manufacturing, oil & gas, mining, petrochemical, maritime and aviation to name a few.

Substation-free power plants have also been developed to cater to areas where there may not exist substations. These types of mobile power systems can directly hook up to the grid, thanks to a state-of-the-art packaged protection system.

Making supply meet demand
Rising from the ruins of the recent economic slump, the Middle East is now enjoying a market resurgence. The region has once again caught the attention of foreign and local investors alike, and is currently witnessing rapid growth in infrastructure-, utility- and construction-related activities. The current regional trend, however, is taking its toll on the region’s energy supply, thus the heightened urgency to find alternative sources of electrical power, both for short- and medium-term utilization. Renewable sources are gaining traction and gradual acceptance and application, but for immediate electricity requirements in any occasion, be it natural calamities, power plant shutdowns, grid instability, supply shortages or back-up, rental power systems still represent the foremost choice.
